Here are 7 tips that will benefit you when dealing with contractors:
1. Make sure you have a written agreement between you & your contractor
2. Make sure the written agreement/contract is signed and dated. There should be a start date and a completion date that is stated in the contract (don’t assume verbal agreements are sufficient, they aren’t)
3. Place penalties in the contract if things start to fall behind. You want these projects completed as soon as possible
4. Understand the hours your contractors will be working. Some areas will only allow contractors to work between certain hours
5. Licensed contractors are always preferred, especially if you need permits pulled
6. Don’t give your contractors all of the funds upfront. Instead you should work out a payment schedule with milestones
7. Monitor the performance, track all changes in writing & establish good communication
